Weekly Classes

Watercolour Classes with Louise Banks

Tuesday Afternoon Classes, starting, 22nd January to the 2nd April, half term 26th Feb.
2.00pm – 4.30pm.  Cost £20.

Creative Watercolour Course “Being creative is not so much the desire to do something as the listening to that which wants to be done – the dictation of materials.” Anni Albers. On this course you will be exploring the unique properties of watercolour in a relaxed, friendly setting.  All abilities are welcome, the only quality required is a willingness to take risks and to have an inquisitive approach to materials. This sketchbook based approach is to experiment, understand and enjoy the medium before embarking on a sustained painting. With guidance your own creative research can develop into loose, expressive studies of plants, flowers and landscapes.  Watercolour tends to do what it wants, therefore the secret is to strike a balance between control and letting go. Starting with a Bauhaus approach to colour theory, we will be focusing each week on a different specific hue, using watercolour techniques to create a variety of effects. The emphasis will be on working in an abstract way with colour and trying to achieve translucent washes before applying line. We will also be looking at the new movement of Urban Watercolour Sketchers.

Monthly Classes

Life Drawing

Life Drawing with Louise Banks.

Afternoon classes, 1st Wednesday of every month 2-4.30pm.  Cost £25.

“Paintings are but research and experiment. I never do a painting as a work of art, all of them are researches. I search constantly.” This Picasso quote informs much of my teaching. These afternoon sessions are for all abilities, from absolute beginners to those with experience of Life Drawing. The aim is to provide a calm space where risk taking and exploration of techniques and materials are encouraged. You will be drawing and studying the human form by looking at an unclothed life model. Initially you will be responding to the model’s poses, using loose gestural marks. Materials this year will begin with charcoal leading onto other tonal work including chalks, pastels and gesso on coloured papers.  Initially looking at line we will progress onto capturing light and shadow on the figure. We will work in stages focusing on all the main elements of drawing: space, line, tone, proportion and the whole form.

Provided materials: Lining paper for gestural, short poses will be provided at all classes along with charcoal (both compressed and willow) and low tack masking tape.

For every session please bring: Your own charcoal sticks if you have them see above (can be provided), charcoal pencil, large drawing pad of heavy weight paper – A3 or larger, pencils HB + 2B, putty rubber and normal pencil rubber.

The spontaneous and academic are not seen as mutually exclusive, both expressive and traditional skills are covered. Learning to ‘see’ rather than just ‘look’ is at the core of every course.

Portraying Life Forms

Portraying Life Forms with Hannah Twine.

Afternoon classes, 2nd Wednesday of every month 2-4.30pm, Cost £20.

A friendly and informative monthly workshop designed to give confidence & improve your draughtsmanship skills through drawing and painting. You have freedom to choose your own subject, whether it be human, animal, botanical or landscape.
Work in a medium of your choice… Pencil, charcoal, coloured pencil, pastel, oil & watercolour.
Learn valuable techniques to help you ‘see’ and transcribe the world around you more easily, enabling you to draw ‘free hand’ without the dependence of gridding and tracing. Use of proportion, shape & colour, values and modelling, will all be covered whilst working on your individually chosen subjects.

*ALL abilities welcome from complete beginners to more experienced.

Full Day Art Class with Hannah Twine

On the 1st Monday of each month, I have a Full Day of Art! 10am – 4pm, the class costs £50, please bring your own lunch.

Quirky Birds

Slow Stitch class with Kat Paul.

Afternoon Classes, last Thursday of the month, 2 – 5pm, Cost £20.

Taking inspiration from Indian Kantha embroidery, come and have a fun filled stitching afternoon. Explore how the use of simple hand stitch techniques can result in bright, colourful textiles. Working on layers of fine linen/cotton fabric with a fine wadding in between and a variety of colourful threads you’ll be able to work on a picture of a little bird to take home with you. Then to build up to a more complicated piece of work over the months. Tea and homemade cake provided to help along the creative process!
Materials; Don’t worry if you have never sewn before or unsure of what to bring. All the items below I’ll be bringing on the day,
Scissors, Fine crewel needles(sharps). Selection of needle sizes. Eye of needle large enough for thread to go through but easy enough to pass through lightweight cotton/linen fabric. Embroidery threads of various colours e.g Stranded cotton, Cotton Perle size 8

Learning to ‘see’ rather than just ‘look’ is at the core of every course.";s:6:"filter";b:1;s:6:"visual";b:1;s:11:"panels_info";a:7:{s:5:"class";s:14:"WP_Widget_Text";s:3:"raw";b:0;s:4:"grid";i:9;s:4:"cell";i:1;s:2:"id";i:19;s:9:"widget_id";s:36:"dff61f96-4ec2-4797-9245-236c11c68b88";s:5:"style";a:1:{s:18:"background_display";s:4:"tile";}}}i:20;a:16:{s:13:"attachment_id";i:2948;s:3:"url";s:80:"https://artandwellbeing.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Magnet-sm-copy-200x300.jpg";s:5:"title";s:21:"Portraying Life Forms";s:4:"size";s:6:"medium";s:5:"width";i:200;s:6:"height";i:300;s:7:"caption";s:0:"";s:3:"alt";s:0:"";s:9:"link_type";s:6:"custom";s:8:"link_url";s:0:"";s:13:"image_classes";s:0:"";s:12:"link_classes";s:0:"";s:8:"link_rel";s:0:"";s:17:"link_target_blank";b:0;s:11:"image_title";s:0:"";s:11:"panels_info";a:7:{s:5:"class";s:21:"WP_Widget_Media_Image";s:3:"raw";b:0;s:4:"grid";i:10;s:4:"cell";i:0;s:2:"id";i:20;s:9:"widget_id";s:36:"e3161977-e6d1-4756-a75f-40db81f5d2fe";s:5:"style";a:1:{s:18:"background_display";s:4:"tile";}}}i:21;a:9:{s:4:"text";s:16:"Enquire to book ";s:3:"url";s:10:"post: 2546";s:11:"button_icon";a:5:{s:13:"icon_selected";s:0:"";s:10:"icon_color";b:0;s:4:"icon";i:0;s:14:"icon_placement";s:4:"left";s:24:"so_field_container_state";s:4:"open";}s:6:"design";a:12:{s:5:"width";b:0;s:10:"width_unit";s:2:"px";s:5:"align";s:6:"center";s:5:"theme";s:4:"atom";s:12:"button_color";s:7:"#dd0000";s:10:"text_color";b:0;s:5:"hover";b:1;s:4:"font";s:7:"default";s:9:"font_size";s:1:"1";s:8:"rounding";s:3:"1.5";s:7:"padding";s:1:"1";s:24:"so_field_container_state";s:4:"open";}s:10:"attributes";a:6:{s:2:"id";s:0:"";s:7:"classes";s:0:"";s:5:"title";s:0:"";s:7:"onclick";s:0:"";s:3:"rel";s:0:"";s:24:"so_field_container_state";s:6:"closed";}s:12:"_sow_form_id";s:32:"20776277995b8e8c891d23f484724481";s:19:"_sow_form_timestamp";s:13:"1536068831178";s:10:"new_window";b:0;s:11:"panels_info";a:7:{s:5:"class";s:31:"SiteOrigin_Widget_Button_Widget";s:3:"raw";b:0;s:4:"grid";i:10;s:4:"cell";i:0;s:2:"id";i:21;s:9:"widget_id";s:36:"645dc1c6-939a-48d7-9d7b-8236a898c3e6";s:5:"style";a:1:{s:18:"background_display";s:4:"tile";}}}i:22;a:5:{s:5:"title";s:40:"Portraying Life Forms with Hannah Twine.";s:4:"text";s:871:"
